Data security 'holding up cloud uptake'Many businesses are concerned over data security when it comes to the uptake of cloud computing technology and this could be putting many companies off, it has been claimed.Rik Ferguson, senior security advisor at Trend Micro, said security really means control and accountability for data and the fact that the cloud operates in the way it does, means that these key issues can be diminished. "We can't outsource any accountability - that's the reason why it becomes a barrier to executives who adopt those services," he commented. Mr Ferguson made his comments at the recent Westminster eForum Keynote Seminar. Elsewhere, Luis Corrons, technical director for Panda Security, recently said improving staff training is key to businesses boosting their data security. She noted the main thing to do is to improve education for staff and to ensure they understand the full implications - to both themselves and to the business - of lax behaviour. ![]() |
