Companies 'should embrace technology'Businesses could improve their disaster recovery readiness by investing in new technologies, it has been argued.Alistair McKinnon, senior product manager for IP multimedia at Virgin Media Business, said that he is amazed at how few companies are embracing new forms of technology to improve their disaster recovery preparedness. He commented: "Technologies are really good to help out when the problems occur, but also they are improving productivity on a day-to-day basis." Mr McKinnon added that systems like video conferencing could help firms keep in touch with personnel when they are unable to get into the office. According to Outsourcery, the eruption in Iceland has caused havoc for many companies that do not have flexible working practices in place, as many workers are stranded abroad and cannot get into work. The provision of cloud technology could have helped in many of these cases, as it allows for employees to access business applications and data from alternate locations. ![]() |
