Webspam 'a constant threat' for firmsThe proliferation of spam is a growing problem for businesses and the shutdown of a number of botnets has done little to stem the tide, it has been claimed.Jerome Smith, course manager at 7Safe, said that as long as people continue to click on links and respond to spam, then the problem will not go away any time soon. As a result, it is important for businesses to educate their staff on the dangers of responding to unsolicited emails. He commented: "The problem is that the fundamental technology for sending email isn't secure in terms of authentication - that is, how can I be sure that this email really is from company ABC?" According to research by Symantec, global email statistics showed that spam levels fell marginally in February to 89.34 per cent - down from 89.99 per cent in the previous month. However, the company pointed to a rise in phishing attacks over February. ![]() |
