Data security 'an ongoing challenge' for firmsMany businesses are continuing to battle to improve their data security provisions, despite attempts by criminals to break into their systems.Computing.co.uk reported that firewalls, antivirus, intrusion detection and prevention systems should all play a part in modern IT security infrastructure and that it is up to firms to ensure they have the right level of provisioning in this area to safeguard the critical files and data. Bill Rafferty, development manager at City University London, told the publication: "The biggest challenge really comes down to striking a balance between flexibility and responsiveness, maintaining an audit trail, knowing who is who and managing that trust." Elsewhere, Martin Smith, chairman and founder of the Security Awareness Special Interest Group, recently said that businesses must ensure they protect all areas of their IT infrastructure in order to ensure they are safeguarding their confidential records. He argued that a converged security approach can achieve the best results and ensure no single area is left out of the security loop. ![]() |
