UK IT sector 'still recovering'The IT industry in the UK is sill feeling the effects of the recession and it could be many months until this passes, one industry expert has stated.Michael Dean, head of marketing at the National Computing Centre, said accessibility, flexibility and security of outsourced or cloud computing technologies is driving uptake, but the fact a global recession is still underway means many businesses are not spending as much on IT infrastructure as they otherwise might. He commented: "The IT industry is always bullish, but there are big shifts coming in the way corporates buy IT ... end users will be buying more services and less IT." According to data from Forrester Research, IT market indicators for the fourth quarter of 2009 showed an end to declines, setting the stage for stronger growth in 2010. However, stronger euro and European debt concerns will keep western and central Europe markets expanding at the slowest rate among the regions. ![]() |
