Disaster recovery 'not up to scratch for many'Research by Acronis has found that almost three quarters (72 per cent) of British, German and French firms still rely on an end-of-day backup strategy to protect their data.Computer Weekly reported that this could lead to problems in times of crisis with recovery and urged businesses to consider continuous data protection as a more viable alternative. "It is surprising that with disaster recovery technology being so mature and the implications of data loss being so well reported that there is still evidence of bad backup and recovery processes," commented David Blackman, general manager for Northern Europe at Acronis. Elsewhere, Rob Lovell, chief executive officer of ThinkGrid, recently said the recent volcanic ash cloud that grounded fleets of airliners recently could have had less of a detrimental impact on business if companies had embraced cloud computing technology sooner. He noted that disaster recovery processes can be put in place in the cloud to enable employees to easily work outside of the office environment. ![]() |
