Disaster recovery 'underpinned by virtualisation'Businesses should look to virtualisation technology to underpin their disaster recovery preparations, it has been stated.Xepa Consulting chief financial officer Conrad Hoffman told IT Web that physical damage to the office can often result in a loss of data, but when virtualisation technology has been embraced, files can be easily and swiftly transferred offsite. In addition, server maintenance can be handled more efficiently in the virtualised environment, Mr Hoffman argued. He said: "We are also able to easily move loads to conduct maintenance or upgrades on each server as necessary; we simply bring one down and move the applications to the other and then repeat the process." Elsewhere, Search Security recently reported that implementing virtualisation technology is the key to boosting data security in consolidated IT infrastructure. The publication claimed setting up a number of virtual machines within the infrastructure can help to reduce security concerns, as these can be accessed and monitored independently. ![]() |
