Web-based applications 'focus on flexibility'The rise in the provision of web-based applications within IT infrastructure is based on the significant cost-savings this can provide, as well as the increased flexibility for data management, it has been stated.George Bardassi wrote in a post for the Reporter Online that companies are focused on their bottom lines now more than ever and, as such, the outsourcing of applications to the internet could help make firms more flexible and cost-efficient in terms of user access and ensuring workers are able to get to the data they require at all times. He stated: "Examples of hosted solutions are Google Mail, Calendar, Tasks etc, versus Microsoft's dominant Exchange solution or QuickBooks." Elsewhere, Martin Veitch recently wrote in an article for CIO UK that cuts to public spending could be good news for cloud computing providers, as thousands of UK organisations will now be looking to cut costs. As a result, the savings this technology can offer to companies could play an integral part in the future uptake of cloud services in this country. ![]() |
