Windows 'to maintain dominance'Companies are unlikely to switch away from Windows operating systems any time soon, it has been argued.Mike Simons, editor of ComputerworldUK.com, said the platform is used by the majority of businesses and to say that a host of FTSE 500 companies would choose to outlay such large amounts to change their IT infrastructure so drastically is a little far-fetched. He commented: "If Google is dropping Windows, it is more to do with the rivalry between the two firms on everything from search to desktop productivity apps than it is to do with security." Mr Simons made his comments after recent reports that Google plans to switch all its operating systems to either Mac or Linux. According to Brandon LeBlanc, Windows communications manager at Microsoft, when it comes to security, even hackers admit Microsoft is doing a better job making its products more secure than anyone else. He argued that third-party industry leaders tell Microsoft regularly that its focus and investment continues to surpass others in this area. ![]() |
