Cloud security 'linked to understanding'Companies should understand the risks that face their business when deciding whether cloud computing is the right option for them.Andy Ellis, chief security architect at Akamai, told IT Director that there is a gap between people's perceptions of the cloud and the reality of what the product can deliver in terms of security. Mr Ellis said: "The first thing you have to do is to understand your own business. That's often the first mistake that security practitioners may make." He added that many businesses have already reconciled these differences and are moving forward with cloud uptake. Elsewhere, the Manila Bulletin recently reported cloud computing still has a long way to go before it offers the ultimate IT infrastructure solution to meet the needs of businesses. The publication stated the cloud as it stands today offers considerable promise for the future, but it must address key issues in order to be a viable option for firms. ![]() |
