How to Protect Your Google Account from Hackers

In today’s digital age, it’s more important than ever to protect your online accounts from hackers. And while no security measure is 100% foolproof, there are a few simple steps you can take to significantly reduce the risk of your Google account being hacked.

Choose a Strong Password

First and foremost, use a strong password. A strong password is one that is at least 8 characters long and includes a mix of upper and lower case letters, numbers, and symbols. Avoid using easily guessed words like your name or birthdate, and don’t reuse passwords across multiple sites.

Enable Two-Factor Authentication

Enable two-factor authentication for your Google account. Two-factor authentication adds an extra layer of security by requiring you to enter a code from your mobile phone in addition to your password when logging in.

This means that even if someone manages to guess your password, they won’t be able to log in to your account unless they also have access to your phone.

Don’t Use the Same Logins Elsewhere

Be sure not to use your Google credentials anywhere else. Many people use the same password for multiple online accounts, but if one of those accounts is compromised, the hacker will then have access to all of your other accounts. So instead, create unique passwords for each of your online accounts.

  1. Strengthen Your Google Security Settings

  2. Open your Google Account. You might need to sign in.

  3. Under “Security,” select Sign into Google.

  4. Choose 2-Step Verification and then Get started.

  5. Follow the steps on the screen.

Stay Up-to-Date

Stay up-to-date on the latest security threats and Google’s security features. Hackers are constantly finding new ways to break into online accounts, so it’s important to keep up with the latest security news and make sure you’re using the most recent version of Google’s security tools.

Recognise Threats

Keep an eye out for suspicious activity. If you receive an email or notification from Google that you don’t recognise, be sure to report it as spam. And if you notice any unusual activity on your account, such as new apps or devices being added, change your password immediately.

By following these simple steps, you can help keep your Google account safe from hackers. For more tips on how to avoid getting hacked, be sure to browse our catalogue of blogs.
